When you are consuming around 6-7 protein shakes a week you kind of have to get creative with the flavoring. Enter my new bestie, coconut butter. If you haven’t tried it, you must, I’ve found the Artisana brand at Whole Foods/Trader Joes or Amazon. It’s like, creamy coco-nutty goodness in spreadable form. I had been melting it and serving it over sweet potatoes with cinnamon until this whole heat wave thing started. Yesterday afternoon I decided that it would be great to add to my afternoon smoothie for a dose of good fat (and deliciousness.. who am I kidding).
Keep in mind, coconut butter and coconut oil =’s not the same thing. Although coconut oil I love for things like hair masks and skin- as well as cooking up sweet potatoes.
Why coconut butter? Well, coconut helps stimulate your metabolism for one. It gives you energy and is packed with lauric acid (yeah, I had no idea what that was either)- which destroys harmful bacteria and viruses.
Right, all of that aside…it’s just frigging delicious
- 1 scoop Chocolate Protein Powder
- 1 tbsp Coconut Butter
- 1/2 Banana
- 1 Cup Almond Milk
- Throw all ingredients in, blend together, and enjoy!
**Use amounts according to your taste buds and how hungry you are. Feel free to use coconut extract if coconut butter isn’t available- but then try to add in another healthy fat to your smoothie for the health benefits
