This Christmas was really special- not only did we get to spend it in Virginia with my family but we had my nephew Oliver with us. He still doesn’t understand the whole Santa concept- but once he figured out how to unwrap presents it was game on. That little man ripped into everything, even things that weren’t his, and it was hysterical.
Watching Ollie turn into a mini version of my brother brings tears to my eyes- and I couldn’t be more proud of David for turning into a father, it’s a transformation that really has been the most touching experience a sister could have. There are so many emotions as I watch him parent his child. I’m not quite sure I can adequately explain it. Maybe the photos do it justice?
I’ve already decided that I’m going to be the cool Auntie, and my sister takes the cake as the hysterical and fun one. Carla is, in all honesty, the funniest person that I know. We have grown so much closer as sisters in the past few years- once you get through the teenage fighting and we have become the best of friends. I can think of no one that has her blunt honesty- or anyone else that I could call that would reduce me to falling on the floor hysterical laughing fits. Love you Carl…
Not shown in these photos? My husband (but he knows how I feel about him), my mom, and my dad. Dad is an eternal optimist, a dreamer- always up for any crazy scheme that I throw at him. In fact, it’s our scheming that had me at an animal farm on Christmas Eve… attempting to figure out how to fit a mini donkey, a potbellied pig, and a small pony into the back of our car (long story). We couldn’t do it- but that doesn’t mean that I can’t FedEx one to his farm. Sorry in advance Dad.
As for my Mom- she is caring and always one to call for advice. I delight in making her laugh because she’s the only person, besides myself, that will end up on the floor in a bout of hysterical laughter. She’s the one that I got my face from (we truly do look the same).. my good genes.. my ability to fiercely love like none other- and my loyalty to those that I care about.
It’s these 4 people that have shaped who I became as a person. Oliver and my husband make up the rest. Six extraordinary people that have made my world.. six people that I will be forever grateful to…
As it’s because of them that I am, who I am.
Happy Holidays everyone..
